The tour

Six Days. Countless Islands. The Ultimate Scottish Ride. If ever there was a tour that defines what motorcycle adventure in the UK should feel like — this is it.

The Highlands and Islands Tour is not a straight line on a map. It’s a rolling, weaving, ferry-hopping journey through some of the wildest and most breathtaking terrain in Europe. Mainland epics. Remote Hebridean roads. Big-sky coastlines. Mountain passes. Empty stretches of perfect tarmac.

This is Scotland at full volume.

Here’s how the full six-day adventure unfolds….

Day 1: Borders sweepers to Hebridean harbour life

We roll out of Moffat and immediately find rhythm in the flowing curves of the Southern Uplands. It’s the perfect opener — open sight lines, smooth tarmac, and the kind of roads that let everyone settle into tour mode. As we push North, Scotland begins to stretch its legs. Valleys widen. Mountains sharpen. The Highlands rise. We carve through vast glens and dramatic ridgelines before reaching the west coast and boarding our first ferry — engines off, sea air on, anticipation building. Landing on the Isle of Mull shifts the tone instantly. Narrower roads, coastal bends, wild scenery and that unmistakable island calm. We finish in Tobermory, its colourful harbour providing a picture-perfect end to day one.

Day 2: Island riding at its purest

A morning blast across Mull reminds us why Hebridean riding is so addictive — twisting single track, rolling moorland, constant sea views. Back to the mainland by ferry, and then North through some of the most dramatic Highland scenery you can experience from the saddle. Big mountains. Long lochs. Endless horizons. Skye delivers theatre. Jagged peaks. Brooding skies. Roads that rise, dip and twist with purpose. Then comes one of the tour’s hidden gems — the crossing to Raasay. Quiet, intimate, spectacularly scenic. We overnight at Raasay House, with views back across to the Cuillin mountains.

Day 3: Into the Outer Hebrides

More Skye magic awaits in the morning — iconic single-track stretches and sweeping coastal climbs. We then sail west into something even wilder. The Outer Hebrides feel different. Bigger skies. Broader horizons. A raw, elemental atmosphere.

The roads across Lewis are beautifully open and flowing, cutting through peat moorland and hugging rugged coastline. It’s meditative, powerful riding. Another epic ferry ride sees allows for some relaxation before hitting the jackpot….

We settle into Stornoway knowing we’ve already experienced three very different Scotlands — and we’re only halfway.

Day 4: Remote Britain at its most dramatic

Leaving Lewis, we head south through Harris — arguably one of the most visually stunning landscapes in the UK. White-sand beaches that look Caribbean (until you dip a toe in), jagged mountains rising straight from the sea, and gloriously empty roads. Of course we head North again to one of the most visually spectacular spots on this Tour, The Butt of Lewis. We’ll all need some time to take in this rugged and beautiful scenery before heading South to grab another ferry ride back to the mainland, and the character and mood shifts yet again.

Now we join one of the most famous touring routes in the world — the North Coast 500. We ride a spectacular stretch of the North Coast 500 (NC500) along Scotland’s far north coast — remote, rugged, unforgettable. This is bucket-list tarmac. Big Atlantic views. Clifftop roads. Long, open sections where it’s just you, your bike, and the elements. Riding the NC500 isn’t just about ticking off a name — it’s about experiencing why it’s legendary. The scale. The exposure. The drama.

We arrive at Borgie Lodge near the north coast, perched in wild surroundings that make you feel wonderfully off-grid and frankly, this is one of our most favourite places in Scotland to stay.

Day 5: The Northern Highlands to the Moray Coast

This is a contrast day — and a brilliant one. We continue tracing sections of the iconic North Coast 500, sweeping east across the northern Highlands. The far north delivers flowing bends and expansive moorland before gradually softening as we arc toward the Moray coastline. The roads begin to flow faster, linking villages and coastline in a series of perfectly connected curves. We hug sections of the Moray Firth coastline, with sea views returning and the riding becoming deliciously rhythmic.

Arriving at Banff on the northeast coast feels like re-entering civilisation — but on our terms, having conquered the wild north and ridden one of the world’s most talked-about touring routes.

Day 6: Grand Finale, QMR style

The final day blends flowing A-roads, rolling countryside, and a celebratory feel as we head south. But this isn’t simply a ride home. Carving our way back home through Speyside’s sweeping, fast-flowing roads via some of the finest distilleries and estates you will ever set eyes upon, its just magnificent! Winding our way through the Cairngorms National Park - Huntly, Dufftown, Grantown-on-Spey, Tomintoul, Braemar, Glenshee - words do no justice to this legendary route. We will never tire of riding this part of Scotland.

We route via Knockhill — Scotland’s national motorsport circuit — a fitting nod to everything that binds riders together. From there we continue through scenic back roads before finishing near the iconic Forth bridges at Queensferry.

Six days. Multiple ferries. Countless islands. Hundreds of miles of unforgettable tarmac.

This isn’t just “a Highlands trip.”

This is:

  • Mainland mountain epics

  • Mull, Skye, Raasay, Lewis & Harris

  • The legendary NC500

  • The far north coast

  • Atlantic cliff roads

  • Remote single-track adventure

  • Big, flowing Highland sweepers

  • Carefully timed ferry crossings that add to the sense of journey

  • Hand-picked accommodation in characterful, memorable locations

Most importantly — it’s shared with a group of like-minded riders who understand that touring isn’t about speed. It’s about experience. About stopping for that view. About the laugh at the fuel stop. About the stories in the bar afterwards. The Highlands and Islands Tour delivers progression. Each day feels different. Each landscape raises the bar. Each island adds a new character.

You don’t just ride Scotland on this tour, You experience it.

And by the time we roll into Queensferry, with the Forth bridges towering overhead, you’ll know you’ve completed something special. This is bucket-list British touring.

This is Highlands and Islands.

The tour

This special Tour has it all! Big roads, Big scenery and huge Atmosphere! Always wanted to visit Ireland? Then this is the Tour for you.

Day 1: Ferry to The Emerald Isle

We begin the day with a fast ferry ride from Cairnryan to Belfast which gives the group plenty of time to relax into some early friendships before our adventure begins. Once on land, we roll out of Belfast and quickly leave the city behind, heading south around Northern Ireland’s beautiful North East coastline. We jump on and off another couple of scenic ferry routes on our journey South towards the border after Warren Point. The scenery changes as we swap the rugged coastline, for Ireland’s rolling countryside, and the long sweeping bends and fast, open sections that allow the group to find it’s rhythm! As we push into the Midlands, traffic thins and the roads become more rural and relaxed. This is enjoyable, progressive riding — smooth lines, good visibility and confidence-building curves. The opening day is all about settling into Irish tarmac — rugged coastline, flowing A-roads and the charm of the towns and villages we ride through on our journey. Expect green fields stretching to the horizon, stone walls lining the roads and that unmistakable Irish light that makes everything feel cinematic. We finish at the Tullamore Court Hotel, perfectly placed after a strong opening leg and ready for the Atlantic run west.

Day 2: Jaw Dropping Scenery

Now it gets special. We head South West, across the entire country to Limerick, a beautiful City that straddles the river Shannon. The Shannon estuary heads out towards the Atlantic Ocean and we continue West toward the Atlantic and the landscape begins to transform. The roads open, then tighten, then rise and fall as the terrain becomes more dramatic. We now begin our journey along the legendary Wild Atlantic Way!

This stretch of coastline offers some of the most spectacular roads and scenery Ireland has to offer as we head North up this magnificent, twisting, flowing ribbon of tarmac - The Wild Atlantic Way. I genuinely struggle to describe these roads and I’ve been spoiled riding them many times! You cannot fail to be disappointed at the breath-taking views on offer (pray for good weather) as we hug the coastline all the way. As we approach Galway and Ireland’s western seaboard, we connect with sections feeding toward the legendary Atlantic coastal routes. Long, sweeping curves with huge sight lines, open moorland stretches and glimpses of the ocean begin to appear.

Expect:
- Big, flowing third- and fourth-gear corners
- Rolling elevation changes
- Rugged coastal scenery
- Small fishing villages and colourful harbour towns

By the time we roll into Galway, you’ll feel that shift — this is no longer inland Ireland. This is the Wild Atlantic edge.

Day 3: The Wild Atlantic Way

This is a standout riding day.

Leaving Galway, we head North West into more remote and dramatic terrain. The roads begin to tighten in places, offering technical sections that reward smooth throttle control and precision lines — but always with that flowing Irish character. You cannot fail to be blown away at the breath-taking views on offer (pray for good weather), as we hug the coastline all the way around passing Ballynahinch, Clifden, Letterfrack towards West Port. We carve through sweeping inland stretches before climbing into exposed upland roads with panoramic views stretching for miles…..and we’re only halfway on this epic ride!

North to Newport and then West along the coastline once again to Mallarany before heading North again through the stunning scenery of the Wild Nephin National Park. Stops aplenty for those invaluable photographic memories as well as just an opportunity to take it all in, it truly is an experience not to be forgotten.

We’re still not done! From here, we head across the open countryside towards Ballina, continuing on towards Sligo before following the coastline North again. As we approach Donegal, the sense of remoteness increases. Fewer cars. Bigger skies. Better riding. The surfaces are engaging, the bends rhythmic and the scenery unforgettable. We arrive at the Mill Park Hotel in Donegal having experienced one of the finest riding days Ireland has to offer. You will be speaking about this day’s riding forever!

Day 4: Majestic Coastline

Today we transition from wild Ireland into road racing territory and once again, we head off North West, hugging the stunning coastline for a big day of riding. We will cover around 200 miles of beautiful roads but we need the weather Gods to be on our side. This coastline is breath-taking, it really is. We’ll pass through Mountcharles, Ardara, Dungloe, then up and around Glenveagh National Park via Dunfanaghy. We then head South towards Letterkenny and up through Bridgend over the border into Northern Ireland. Once again, we pick up the coastal road towards the pictureque town of Royal Portrush where we have our last stop. The coastline delivers dramatic Atlantic views, fast open sections and beautifully flowing roads that rise and fall with the contours of the land. As we track toward Portrush, the atmosphere begins to build. More bikes on the road. More race support vans. More buzz at every fuel stop. By the time we roll into Portrush and check into the Adelphi Hotel, we are firmly in North West 200 country.

We can now relax into a well-earned break from riding into exciteable race fans! We’ll have 2 nights in Royal Portrush, staying at the luxurious Adelphi Hotel and on the Saturday, we’ll have Grandstand seats to watch the NW200 races whilst soaking up the amazing atmosphere of one of the best road races you will witness! The hospitality on offer is outstanding! It’s simply the best way to soak up one of the finest road-racing events on the calendar.

The energy is unmistakable.

Day 5: Race Day - The North West 200

Today the bikes stay parked. This is a full, dedicated race day — no riding, no rushing, just total immersion in one of the fastest road races on the planet. The North West 200 runs on closed public roads between Portrush, Portstewart and Coleraine. Long straights. Flat-out sections. Superbikes drafting inches apart at astonishing speeds. And we experience it properly:

  • Pre-booked grandstand tickets

  • Premium viewing positions

  • VIP hospitality access/exploring the paddock

  • Space to relax, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the full race programme

You won’t be scrambling for a hedge spot or fighting crowds. You’ll have comfortable seating, unbeatable views and the freedom to enjoy the build-up, the tension and the sheer brutality of road racing at full speed. When those superbikes launch and thunder past at close to 200mph, the sound alone is worth the trip. The North West 200 is a crowd-puller every single year — and once you’ve experienced race day like this, you understand exactly why.

No sanitised circuits. No vast run-off areas. Just real roads, real speed and world-class bravery. Enjoy a beer or two with our group and just soak it all in!

Day 6: The Road Home

After the adrenaline of race day, we saddle up once more for the final leg back toward Belfast. The return ride offers one last hit of flowing northern roads — sweeping inland sections, glimpses of coastline and a chance to reflect on what has been an unforgettable six days. Just because it’s our last day, we finish in style!

Another 110 miles of stunning Antrim Coastline! We will of course take in a coffee stop at Joeys Bar and a visit to The Giants Causeway for those all-important photographs before heading to catch our ferry at 3.30pm. There are two guarantees on this trip - the Guinness and the Irish Hospitality, both of which are second to none. You can also be sure that the stunning coastal views and beautiful green landscape will be etched onto your mind until you revisit, (hopefully with QMR in 2027!).

We roll into the ferry terminal as a properly bonded group.

- Six days.
- Unbelievable roads and scenery.
- Remote, fast-flowing, open, twisty and winding - you’ve experienced it all!
- Irish hospitality and charm.

We could go on, but we’ll leave the ending for you to fill……………..
